Puppy Champion Moriah!

There were 3 dog shows Homecoming weekend. The first show Moriah took best of Opposites beating 3 class plush females and 1 puppy champion. This earned her 4 points! The male that took best plush was Ender and he looked so nice in the ring - I'm not surprised at all that he beat her. I think he took best puppy at this show.

The second show was the national specialty and she didn't do so well - Penny looked good and was picked over her in her class so Moriah had a short day.

The third show was on Sunday. Moriah and Drew were ready to go and she took winners. Then she went into the ring with Ender and Molly (again!) . The judge really took her time going over them and I couldn't believe it when she picked Moriah! Wow - best plush puppy! Moriah only needed 3 more points so she has earned her puppy championship!!! And just a couple weeks over 6 months....

Drew did a great job handling her. Her fear of judges is pretty much gone - she didn't have one reaction to any of them coming up to touch her.

Driving up to Homecoming

Renting an RV sounded like a good idea - I can't believe all the stuff we had to bring with us! I feel like I just packed up my house! This is a 24' class C and it seems a little too small for 4 people and 2 dogs!

The prime spot in the RV was the space between the 2 front seats. They kept switching off laying there. Dory was nice and comfortable but Moriah felt it was her turn so she decided she had to lay on top of her to share the best spot. Dory never made a sound - funny girl...

Here is Dory in her second favorite spot - watching the road over Andrew's shoulder.

One more show video

I have one more video of Andrew running Moriah around the ring. She didn't put her head down to sniff once. Mrs. Berrios, the judge told Andrew that he ran her around perfectly!

This video starts right after Moriah backed away from the judge when she reached for her head. But she asked Drew for a treat and you see Moriah going to her to get the reward.

IABCA 2009 Purina Farms Summer Sieger - Day Two

Day 2 - still hot but worth the effort - Moriah is now an IABCA International Puppy Champion!! I just need to fill out the orange sheets and send them in.

Moriah was still not happy with the judges touching her head. In the 4th show, the judge, Mrs. Berrios asked if Moriah was teething? Then a light bulb went off - no wonder she was was not letting folks near her head! While I was cropping the picture below, I noticed bloody gums around that back molar. Poor baby!

Waiting for the show 4 critique.

Happy girl!!

Notice in these next 2 pictures that we have stopped even holding on to her lease. Tons of dogs and people walking by the vendor right next to her and she laid next to us watching everything and then sleeping. I just can't believe how calm and bonded to us she is. She has no desire to wander or run away.

Waiting for the ring - you know Drew is serious when he wears church pants in the heat to show Moriah. Now I just have to work on getting him to tuck in his shirt! :-)

Andrew practicing hand stacking Moriah. He was also working on free stacking. She has learned down and sit (voice and hand signals) waiting for her dinner to be served, now we are going to add stand to the meal time rotation.

IABCA 2009 Purina Farms Summer Sieger - Day One

Hot, hot, hot! Summer has arrived in St.Louis! Moriah earned two sg1 ratings so she is 2/3 done with her IABCA puppy Championship and 1/2 way to her International puppy Championship! One more day (and 2 more shows) to go!

Show 1 -Drew taking Moriah around the ring. Notice that the rings go aways under the shelter. This judge didn't go out in the sun once. But I don't blame him at all!!

This is the male that beat Moriah.

Best of Breed for Show 1.

Waiting for the second show.

Here is Drew trying to get Moriah to stack after refusing to let this judge touch her. Yes,this is something we are working on - I'm going to hunt down this judge tomorrow and see if I can get him to pet her.

They let the handlers sit for a few minutes as the judge's opinion was being written.

Best of Opposite Sex Puppy!

Moriah went to her first dog show this weekend! The show was held in Maumee Bay, Ohio which is just east of Toledo.

Day one of the show she did great. I ran her around the ring and she trotted nicely and stacked for the judge. She was the only one in her 2-4 month class, so she went to winners and won! She beat 3 other girl plush puppies so she earns 3 points for this show!! She couldn't beat the best plush puppy boy, so she ended up with Best of Opposite Sex Plush puppy. Yeah!!

Day two was a completly different story! Drew probably ran her around a little too much before the show and she was tired. Half way around the ring she decided to go on strike and would not budge. She was the only one in her 2-4 month class, so she went to winners plush group where we were hopeing she would be ok chasing the other puppies. No go - she stopped in her tracks like a Missouri mule and would not budge. It was very cute and pretty funny! Poor Drew...

Bigger.....

This isn't the greatest picture but I have been trying to get another shot of the two girls together to show how much Moriah has grown in just 3 weeks.

A boy and his dog.....

Here is Andrew and Moriah talking in the grass.

Good girl Dory!

I took a little video of the girls playing. Thank God Dory is here to wear Moriah out!! And to take the brunt of those teeth!!

EARS!

Moriah's ears are up for the time being, but still very floppy. Here she is laying in my garden on my smashed geranium. Having a garden in the backyard with dogs isn't the best idea....

We went for a walk around the block today and she was a little fearful of the loud dogs barking and motorcycles driving by. Hopefully daily walks will get her through this stage.

New Friends

Moriah has been home for six days now and is fitting in real well. Here is a picture with Dory our four year old cardigan welsh corgi. Dory is doing a wonderful job playing with Moriah - they still play pretty rough, but Moriah has not backed down once and keeps going back for more. Poor Dory, her neck is getting a little raw from the piranha puppy teeth.
